‘Amazing’ daughter makes mum ‘proud’

Sixteen-year-old Lucy was due to be crowned prom queen the day after she died from a brain tumour in June.

Lucy, a Chatsmore Catholic High School student and was unaware she had been chosen to receive the title but was excited to wear her new orange shoes to the prom.

The school subsequently cancelled the event on June 28 and a vigil was held by friends at Goring gap, where lanterns were released into the sky.

The run-up to the prom had been dominated by revision and GCSE exams for Lucy.

Antonella Goulding spoke to the Herald of her pride after she received Lucy’s results – one A*, seven As (including maths and science, two of her less favoured subjects ), one C and a pass in ICT.

She said: “I’m very, proud but I’m gutted aswell.

“She would have been jumping for joy, she must have pushed herself so hard.”

Lucy was fluent in Italian and had been working at La Campania, an Italian restaurant in Arundel where her mum said she was well loved.

Lucy was planning to study English literature, classical civilisations, business studies and history at A-level in Chichester, and had ambitions of becoming a journalist.

Chatsmore headteacher, Michael Madden said: “Lucy was an absolute delight.

“She supported and cared for others. She had an infectious smile, strong conviction and belief.”

Lucy also had an interest in poetry – which she won a competition for, baking and art.
