A PARENT who led a petition for a lollipop man or woman to be placed on a busy road has been left “shocked, saddened and angered” after it was rejected.

Jo Claydon, 42, of Ripley Road, Worthing, collected more than 250 signatures from concerned parents, who wanted extra safety measures on George V Avenue.

The road is located between West Park CE First and Middle School, and Elm Grove First School, and is an often-used route to school for pupils at both.

The parents are concerned that older children, who walk to school on their own, do not have a safe way of crossing.

But weeks after they submitted their petition for consideration by West Sussex County Council, it has been “rejected out of hand”.

Mrs Claydon said: “I am quite cross it has been rejected out of hand.

“I appreciate the council only has so much funding but I am saddened by the decision. God forbid something happens to a child on that stretch of road.”
