The couple, of Lloyd Goring Close, met at Brighton Dance Hall when Norman asked Jean to dance, and romance blossomed from there.

They married at Eastergate Church and lived in Ferring for most of their married life, until moving to Angmering 20 years ago.

Daughter Jenny Swain said: “Jean came from Brighton and Norman was from Barnham.

“They are a very loving couple, they have always been for each other.”

They have three children, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren, with one more on the way.

Norman, 86, was a painter and decorator all his working life, while Jean, 80, looked after the children.

“As well as their own children, Jean was a foster carer for quite a few years,” added Jenny.

“Dad is a very placid, smiley man, everybody loves him, and mum is lovely. She recently celebrated her 80th birthday but she is very sprightly and loves playing with the grandchildren.”

The couple will celebrate their diamond wedding with a family meal at The Roundstone on Sunday.
