Angmering family escape blaze

AN Angmering family had a lucky escape after a fire in their home on Thursday afternoon, believed to have been started by a match.

Firefighters from East Preston were called to the house, in Fletcher Way, at 3.50pm, following a 999 call to say that an upstairs bedroom was on fire.

When they arrived at the house, the firemen found that the family of five, as well as their three dogs and a cat, had escaped the building, which was well alight with flames spreading fast.

The family, two parents and three children, had been downstairs when the fire took hold.

After smelling smoke, one of them went upstairs to investigate and found the fire.

Neighbours also banged on the door of the house when they saw smoke coming out of the bedroom window.

The fire is thought to have started when one of the children was playing with matches upstairs.

The father suffered minor smoke inhalation and was treated by ambulance paramedics at the scene with oxygen.
