A lack of on-site parking at the site in Southcourt Road, Worthing, has them worried about securing parking spaces close to their homes.

The application was heard at a meeting of Worthing Borough Council’s planning committee on Wednesday, June 19, at Worthing Town Hall. It received 23 letters of objection from residents and three objections from local businesses.

Dawn Appleton, of Eastcourt Road, Worthing, spoke against the application and said: “The gym users will compete with residents for parking spaces in the evening.

“They will park as close as they can to the premises. Established residents will be displaced to far flung spaces.”

The proposed gym site was described as the most accessible location in the borough for public transport by planning officer, Peter Devonport.
