A WOMAN is appealing for donations to help cover more than £3,000 of medical bills after her cat was hit by a car in Worthing.
Last month, Clare Rixon, 27, of North Court Road, came home from work to find her cat, Harry, had been hit by a car that left him with a shattered skull, fractured jaw and a ruptured left eye.
Clare said: “Harry had somehow managed to find his way home after being hit by the car, and had curled up in his special spot on our bed.
“I couldn’t believe it when I came home, and hoped it wouldn’t be that bad until I got close enough to see all the blood and his poor face.”
In a panic, Clare immediately took him to Grove Lodge Vets in Upper Brighton Road, where he has undergone several operations, including the removal of his eye, teeth as well as wiring both his jaw and skull.
“It was truly heart breaking,” added Clare.
In a bid to pay for the £3,500 medical bill, Clare launched a GoFundMe page and has been pleasantly surprised by the level of support.
She said: “We’re so grateful to everyone who has donated so far, and know that even the smallest donation will help him and us.
“We are trying to raise as much as we can to help towards the cost of his treatment. He is doing really well considering everything he has been through,” said Clare.
Within 11 days Clare, who works as an environmental incident manager, has raised more than £700, and is now up to £847.
After going through the majority of his operations, Harry is on the road to recovery, and only needs to have the wires taken out of his skull and jaws. This final operation should be happening within the next few weeks.
Clare added: “The vets are continuously amazed at his resilience.”
To date, GoFundMe fundraisers have raised millions from donors for a whole host of different causes including medical expenses, education costs, volunteer programmes, and youth sports.
