Appeal as theatre props go up in smoke

A THEATRE company is in dire straights after £7,000 worth of props and costumes were destroyed in ferocious garage fire in Monks Avenue, Lancing.

Mark Brailsford, whose parents own the house, was storing 15 years’ worth of theatre gear for his Brighton-based satirical comedy act, The Treason Show, in the garage.

Now it has all gone up in smoke, the company is appealing for help to restock in time for its next show this weekend.

“We’re a very small company and this has been a major blow for us,” said a spokesman for the company.

“We’re trying to generate local support in order to help replenish the store. We have a show on Saturday in Shoreham at the Ropetackle Arts Centre.

“A lot of the items we had were handmade and each one had a special memory attached to it.

“There were also some very strange and comical items in there as you can imagine.”
