POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 20-year-old woman from Lancing was sexually assaulted by touching in Worthing.

The victim was walking along High Street near the junction with Union Place at around 4.15pm on Monday, September7, when she was approached by a man from behind. He put his arms around her and then started to try and kiss her around the neck.

The woman managed to push him away, and continued to walk south along High Street while the suspect walked off in the direction of Union Place.

He is described as mixed race, about 6ft tall with dark hair which is longer on the top and shaved at the side. He was wearing a bright purple top, longer styled shorts and is thought to have access to a bicycle with a basket on the front of it.

PC David Slade said: “We believe the suspect spoke to an elderly lady shortly after the incident and said the words ‘God Bless’.

“The town centre area was particularly busy around this time with vehicles and pedestrians passing, and so we would like to speak with anyone who may have seen something suspicious.”

Witnesses are asked to email or call 101 quoting reference 1361 of 07/09
