The group from the Proto Restaurant Group took part in a special graduation ceremony at Food, the company’s flagship restaurant in New Street, Worthing.

Over the last 18 months, the apprentices have completed a variety of professional qualifications to equip them with, or improve, the skills they need for a kitchen or front of house environment.

The successful candidates, who each received a lapel pin and a personalised scroll of achievement, were brothers Glenn and Paul Slark, Zsuzanna Polyak, Mantas Zilinskas, Balint Beledi, Mourad Bouchlagem, Piotr Pianka, Anita Lowika, Istvan Kundi and Rasa Rakstaitiene.

Proto owner Andy Sparsis organised the celebration to mark the apprentices’ achievements and to congratulate them on their success.

“I’m a great supporter of work-based learning and I’m keen to ensure that our staff receive the training they deserve to help make a difference both on a business and a personal level,” said Mr Sparsis.

“The Proto Restaurant Group has grown considerably over the last decade and we’re proud that we are still working with many of our original team.

“Retaining staff is essential to business success – our secret is to invest in the team and help them realise their potential.

“We’re lucky to have such a great team. I’m very proud and pleased for them all.”

The apprentices are based either at the Food restaurant in Worthing, or The Fish Factory establishments in Worthing and Littlehampton. The restaurant group also includes The Fat Greek Taverna in Worthing.

The apprenticeships have been delivered by HIT Training, a national specialist hospitality training provider based in Shoreham.
