Army reservist Alex a crack shot with rifle

WORTHING musician and newly-qualified Army reservist Alexander Little has proven he is a force to be reckoned with behind a rifle when he was crowned the best shot in his troop.

Private Little, 24, was one of 124 recruits that marched onto the parade square at Army Training Regiment in Grantham to mark the end of their phase one training.

He will now rejoin his chosen Army Reserve Regiment: 3rd Battalion The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment.

Pte Little who is a session musician in his civilian life said he was stunned to have received the accolade from Major General Ranald Munro – the Deputy Commander of Land Forces and the Army’s most senior reservist.

“I was really surprised to receive the award (of Best Shot),” he said. “It was the first time I had fired a weapon and there were other people that were similar shots to me.

“There was a variety of people on the course, all with different life experiences. I enjoyed the live firing and the tabbing (marching long distances with kit). I tend to do tabbing to keep fit anyway.”

Phase one training saw the recruits learning vital skills, from shooting, drills, weapon handling and first aid to field craft and map reading.

Pte Little has a long-term goal to join the regular Army as an officer. He said: “I want to get experience as a soldier so hopefully that will help me become a better Officer.”

The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment is the region;s local infantry battalion.
