ARRCC serves up tasty fund raiser

A RYE charity is relying on the popularity of a cult television programme to boost its funds.

ARRCC, which provides respite care and activities for disabled people in the Rye area, is encouraging people to hold Come Dine With Me style dinners and make a donation.

Come Dine With Me is a programne that sees four strangers holding dinner parties for each other.

The member’s lounge at ARRCC was transformed into a candle-lit bistro last Friday evening when the scheme was launched.

Winchelsea Farm Foods contributed to the three course dinner which was prepared by the members.

The menu consisted of Salmon Mousse. Boeuf Bourguignonne, and the member’s favourite dessert ‘Key Lime Pie, followed by coffee and mints.

Cookery tutor Sarah Makenzie spent the day and evening giving guidance and support andAlan Mackinna, one of the charity’s Trustees, donned his tuxedo, apron, white gloves to become the perfect waiter.

Irma Mortlock, from ARRCC, said: “The meal was thoroughly enjoyed by special guests who included the Mayor and Mayoress of Rye, The Mayor and Mayoress of Winchelsea, Cllr Sam Souster and Rita Cox, Priscilla Ryan, Penny Goldney, Jim Hollands, The Chairman and CEO of ARRCC.

“Before the guests started dinner Ted Jackson, one of ARRCC’s dedicated team of volunteers, explained that this fund raiser is designed to be a very sociable and enjoyable way of giving to help ARRCC’s valuable work.

“All you need to do to get involved, is to ask four persons to lunch or dinner with you and suggest that they might like to donate £25 per couple to ARRCC. A two- course option with a donation of £20 per couple is another suggestion.

“Your guests may well feel that they too would like to undertake a hosting, which could enable the Centre to carry on its valuable work into the future.”

ARRCC (activities, respite, rehabilitation care centre) has been in existence for almost a decade. They offer a ‘holistic’ service to adults with physical and sensory impairments, which helps to reduce social isolation and facilitate independent living.
