Arrows to turn Rye sky red

It will provide a stunning end to a free day-long 1940’s themed festival that will include a display of military vehicles, helicopter rides a strong-man competition, marching bands and a fun fair.

The event will also see a Spitfire flying over Rye again at 3pm - a reminder to some of the frequent aerial dog-fights that took place in the skies above the town during the last war.

The festival has been backed by Rother Council and Rye Chamber of Commerce and organised by Roger Crouch, who put together the record breaking Pirate Day event at Hastings last year.

Roger commented: “This will hopefully attract a lot of people to the town and be something for local people to enjoy too.

The fun fair takes place on the Salts and the strongman competition on the Town Salts.

Vehicles will line up at Strand Quay, before touring the town, and there will also be a Lindy Hop dance display on the quay-side. There will be a wide variety of stalls and other attractions.

Young musicians from Rye College will be touring the town on a flat-bed truck performing period music.

Events start at 10am with the Red Arrows bringing things to a dramatic close at 4pm.

The best viewing area will on the western side of town near Strand Quay.

The festival is all free and collections will be taking place in aid of the Help for Heroes charity.
