Artists ready foropen studios event

ARTISTS across the Rye and Battle area are opening their studios to the public this weekend as part of the South East Open Studio scheme.

The scheme has been running for 15 years and is a dynamic artist led, not for profit organisation.

More than 330 artists and makers in the South East open their studios and other work areas for two weeks between June 3 and 19 and there are 22 studios open across Rye and Battle.

Local artists taking part include Glenys Griffiths, from Ewhurst Green, who paints watercolours of butterflies and wild flowers, and Mark Fisher who paints local landscapes at his studio in Meadow Lane, Sedlescombe.

Fairlight artist Annie Soudaine is well known for her distinctive prints and Bremda Hartill will be showing stunning embossed watercolours at her Udimore studio.

Rye artists taking part include Michael Stott and Will Taylor, who work from the Woolhouse Studio, while Northiam photographer Phil Harrison wil be displaying his nature photography.
