Arts festival continues with ‘a super weekend’

THE Worthing Music and Arts Festival celebrated another weekend of musical talent from students in the singing classes.

Young pop singers took to the stage at The Pavilion, Field Place, on Friday, followed by the Disney and theatre performers on Saturday.

The weekend finished on Sunday evening with four finals performed in front of the mayor of Worthing Vic Walker.

Jan Spooner­-Swabey, festival secretary, said: “It was a super weekend with a really good audience – around 20 to 40 people came all through the weekend which was lovely for the performers.”

Theatre Singer of the Year was awarded to Lauren Crichton for the second time and the Junior Singer of the Year award was presented to Lisa Bird.

Other awards that were presented included the Young Singer of the Year to Curtis Lavender and Luke Basset earned an honours certificate with his audience participation song.

Judge Andrea Calladine said the general standard of the work presented was very high and she enjoyed her weekend.

Speech and Drama classes began on Monday at The Dome in Marine Parade and finish on Sunday with a workshop and a master class with West End star Kim Ismay.

Performances from the festival can be seen in the Festival Highlights Concert on Saturday, March 7, at 7pm in the Emmanuel United Reformed Church, in St Michael’s Road, Worthing.
