Assault leaves elderly woman with broken arm

A woman in her seventies was attacked near Steyne Gardens on Saturday as she was walking to the bus stop at 4.40pm.

Her handbag was snatched by a man who approached her from behind, causing her to fall to the ground.

As a result she sustained a broken arm, chipped shoulder bone, sprained ankle, and serious bruising to her body, for which she was treated at Worthing Hospital.

The handbag was abandoned nearby, but her purse, which contained a small quantity of cash, had been taken from it.

Detective Constable Debbie Birch said; “This was a nasty attack, and very distressing for the victim. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call 101 or email quoting serial 1053 of 9/11. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
