He was the first baby for mum Amber Dulstone, 26, and her partner Mark, 37, of Cotswold Road, Worthing.

Amber said they knew they were having a boy and he was due on January 5, but he had other ideas.

“Everyone was joking, saying ‘don’t have him on Christmas Day’,” she said.

In fact, Dilan will share his birthday with Amber’s uncle, who was also born on Christmas Day.

Amber’s mum nearly missed the news because her phone battery had died and her father was away in Italy.

“I was under strict instructions not to have him while he was away but that didn’t happens,” said Amber, a children’s nurse working in the high dependency unit at Royal Alexandra Children’ Hospital in Brighton.

She and Mark had been due to go to his mum’s house in Hove for Christmas dinner, but she ended up going to their house to cook.

Amber said: “My waters just broke at 4am on Christmas Day with no warning. We went into hospital in the morning to be checked over, but we were sent home again.

“The contractions picked up over the day and we went back in around 7pm, hoping they would not send me home again. I had him at 9.43pm. We didn’t even have time to get the bags out of the car.”

In Bramber ward on Boxing Day, Amber said she had not had much sleep since the birth.

“I felt the need to just stare at him all night,” she said.
