Balcony fire in Worthing spreads to flat

The fire service were called to a fire at a building of four flats in Worthing this afternoon.

Three crews were sent to Chatsmore Crescent in Worthing after reports of a fire came in at just before 2.40pm today (Monday, June 26).

A fire on the balcony had spread to the two storey building, which houses four purpose built flats, a fire service spokesperson said.

There were no people in the property at the time, the spokesperson confirmed.

Two breathing apparatus and a high pressure hose reel were used to extinguish the flames and the building was ventilated.

The blaze was put out by 3.30pm.

The fire is believed to have been accidental, the spokesperson said.
