The group, headed by Dan Guy, 28, of Loxwood Avenue, Worthing, is made up of family and friends who have all adopted explorer alter-egos for the climb.

Dan said: “Me and my brother grew ‘explorer beards’ while on holiday in Wales last year. When we talked about this year’s holiday we decided we would grow bigger and better explorer beards.

“We thought as we are going up Snowdon we may as well dress up as old fashioned explorers and do it for charity.

“I have got quite a vivid imagination and have given everyone explorer names. I have also made a theme song as well.

“It was literally just a joke last year to wind our girlfriends up. This year we have gone all out and it has really snowballed.”
