The Arctic 30 are a group of Greenpeace activists in Russia facing hooliganism charges, which carry a maximum seven-year jail sentence.

Greenpeace UK said: “The 30 people on the Arctic Sunrise put their freedom on the line to protect the Arctic for all of us.

“In return, we must do everything we can to help the cause they were fighting for.”

On Tuesday, a court in St Petersburg began granting bail to some of the activists but others were refused and sent back to prison. Greenpeace said the were still facing the charges.
