Barclays customers face fresh card problems as system crashes

Customers of Barclays Bank may be unable to withdraw money after its system crashed nationwide this afternoon.

There have been reports that customers have been unable to take out money from cash machines or use their cards in shops.

Barclays is one of the largest banks in the country, with around 15 million card customers. It is currently unclear how many of their customers have been affected.

Barclays tweeted at around 2pm this afternoon to report ‘technical issues with digital services’ were being investigated.

The banking giant has since posted a tweet saying that debit card and ATM transactions were also affected and its teams ‘are working to get this restored’.

Customers were faced with a similar situation in October last year when a debit card glitch meant that thousands of customers had payments wrongly taken out of their accounts.

The issue has now been resolved.
