Beach water quality recognised by society

The seven-and-a-half-mile stretch of coastline received a Good Beach Guide certificate from the MCS.

The guide uses sampling data collected by UK environment agencies and local authorities – to assess water quality against a set of guidelines ranging from MCS-recommended through to a fail, where the water doesn’t meet the minimum water quality required.

Bryan Turner, Worthing Borough Council cabinet member for regeneration, said: “We are delighted to have been recognised for the quality of our beach and bathing water. This award confirms Worthing as a great place to visit.”

Graham Cherrett, senior foreshore inspector, added: “This is great news for our bit of coastline, and to have it recognised by the Marine Conservation Society is a big bonus.

“Our rock pools, flint beds and wonderful sandy areas - when the tide is out - make an ideal natural playground and a great day out.”
