Bexhill College A Levels success

IT WAS clearly 'a real result', with much to smile about at Bexhill College on Thursday, when many students, who had eagerly been anticipating their 'A' level results, found that they had achieved grades much higher than anticipated.

Tearing open the envelopes, which contained their results, gasps and shrieks of delight were heard, as many students found they had achieved not one, not two but three straight 'A's; and for some there was even a fourth 'A'.

One such student was 18-year-old Amy Bendell. She received four straight 'A' grades, in Maths, Religious Studies, Geography and Sociology and, clearly stunned by the outstanding results, simply said: "I am ecstatic".

Amy has a place at Warwick University where she will be studying law.

Another student who said she was, "very, very pleased" with her results was 18-year-old Emily Staffiere. She has three 'A's in English, Maths and History - which guarantees her a place at Cambridge.

Emily said she was, " relieved", because studying for her A levels had been, "a lot of hard work".

She added: "I was hoping for a university place but never thought I would do it. I'm in a bit of shock at the moment."

It wasn't just the girls who achieved such high results - eighteen-year-old Nick King also received four straight 'A' passes in History, Maths, English and Physics.

He said: "It's been a lot of hard work but it was definitely worth it."

Nick also has a place at Cambridge where he will be studying History.

For the fifteenth year running, the College as a whole, achieved an A-level pass rate of over 97%, which is above the expected national average.

Other exam results were also issued, and 18-year-old student Kirsty Booker proudly received her BTEC National Diploma in Health studies.

She said that having a baby had not prevented her from her studies as she had been able to obtain a 'care to earn' grant, which had helped pay for childcare.

Kirsty is now planning to work as a nurse.

College Principal Karen Hucker praised the students and staff for their hard work and said: "There are some outstanding achievements by many students including a significant number of students achieving straight 'A' grades in all subjects taken. I am absolutely delighted to see so many students leaving Bexhill College having achieved such outstanding success. Achievements at the College have earned them wonderful opportunities in the future as they become ambassadors for the College and for Rother and for Hastings. These results reflect the excellence of teaching and learning at the College.''
