32801 A strawberry cream tea at St Vincent's care home in Down Road on Saturday marked the 100th anniversary of the building.

It has been built on and added to, with a dining room and two new wings, but the main part of St Vincent's is an old vicarage which has now reached its centenary.

Staff, residents and families celebrated the event with a garden party and tucked into their scones, cakes and strawberries while listening to music.

Staff member Sue Funnell said: "We had the strawberry cream tea for residents, family and anyone else who liked to come in. We made lots of cakes which all went, which was nice, and there was just one left next day and a few buns which we had for tea on Sunday.

"Everyone said they thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was great to get some of them out into the garden - it was really lovely."

Money raised by the event and the coffee morning held later in the year will go towards buying Christmas presents for residents.

Sue said: "Some of them don't have families, some haven't got anybody. We have been doing this for a long time."
