Hanbury Properties Ltd has submitted a ‘scoping opinion’ for farm land to the south of Summer Lane.

It wants to build 400 homes on the greenfield site, along with a community hub, foodstore and sports pitches.

The land is a strategic housing location for Arun, who have told Pagham that hundreds more houses will be built around the village.

Pagham Parish Council chairman Ray Radmall said: “This is the Church Barton Farm site to the south of Summer Lane, it’s a new application which has only cropped up in the last two or three weeks.

“We have had a chat with the developer and asked for a reduction in the number of homes, though the site was originally allocated for up to 600 homes, as well as other conditions.

“There’s the potential for up to 3,000 homes to be built across Pagham.

“We’ve been told we’ll have to find room for lots of homes.

“We can’t stop all of them but if we can eliminate the worst of them, and get good compromises from the others, that might be the best we can hope for.”
