Biker caught driving 152 miles per hour on A27

A motorcyclist who was caught driving 152 miles per hour – the highest speed on an English road last year – has been banned from driving.

Stephen Tull, an engineer who used to work in Worthing, was clocked driving more than double the speed limit on the A27 between Arundel and Fontwell on October 16, 2011.

The speed was the fastest ever recorded in Sussex.

He was also found not to have a valid MOT certificate for his Yamaha R1 bike.

Tull had been on a “leisure ride” that day from Shoreham to his home in Liphook, Hampshire, Worthing Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday (Monday, October 29).

He was found guilty of dangerous driving after he had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Tull pleaded guilty to separate charges of driving without an MOT and speeding and was banned from driving for 12 months.

He was also given a 12-month community order, including 200 hours of unpaid work, and ordered to pay £620 prosecution costs.

The Herald and Gazette attended the court case.
