Birdman could fill some of the void left by bowls loss

WORTHING Birdman could become even more important for the tourism industry when Bowls England’s national championships leaves Worthing next year, hotels have indicated.

The event, which sees thousands flock to the seafront each year, receives coverage throughout the UK and overseas, and is one of the highlights of the town’s events calendar.

And with hotels anticipating a dip in business next year from the loss of the bowls, many will be looking towards Birdman to go some way to filling the void.

Nick Clinch, general manager of Chatsworth Hotel, in Steyne Gardens, said it would be interesting to see how the hotel fared next year.

He said: “Birdman is one of the biggest events for the town, and we have a few clients who come down and stay with us.

“We have one client who uses us each year as he stores his craft in the garage.

“It will be interesting to see how losing the bowls affects us, as we have a lot of clients from that.”
