Bluebird care has strong expansion plans in the Worthing area for 2012

The manager of Ferring-based Bluebird Care has revealed significant expansion plans for 2012.

Alasdair Imrie took on the franchise last year and has seen it grow rapidly. It now has a staff of 30, with a further 50 posts expected to be created this year as demand for its services increases.

Fostering a supportive attitude to employees with frequent training updates has been at the core of Mr Imrie’s outlook. He is delighted with the response to the firm’s arrival in the area and says it is fast becoming a word of mouth success.

Before being appointed to his present post alongside wife Lynn, an experienced auxiliary nurse, Mr Imrie, a member of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, had won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2003 while with medical firm Neomedic. The company specialised in export of blood transfusion products around the world and saw him conduct major surgical supply deals in Africa.

But circumstances changed and the company suffered trading difficulties which led to his redundancy, which prompted him to consider whether to continue in the medical trade – something he’s particularly glad he decided upon.

“Within a month of receiving my award from the Queen I found myself working at

Kate’s Cakes in West Sussex, before I was able to get back into the medical field. Lynn and I decided we should combine our experience and look at the Bluebird Care franchise and it’s been a very busy first year for the couple behind the franchise.

“We’re now doing around 2,000 home visits a month after starting from around 60 a month.

“Our focus has been in getting the right staff and we have a very good team. There’s a family feel to the business,” added Mr Imrie, of the company that is firmly establishing itself as a key care provider within the area.
