Boat in trouble in stormy seas

A RIGID inflatable boat got in trouble off Goring in stormy seas and high winds.

The Shoreham RNLI all-weather lifeboat launched on Saturday at 4.25pm to a report of a broken down boat.

The vessel with one man on board was located tied to a swimmer buoy 300 metres off the beach in pounding surf and in gale force seven winds.

A tow line was set up and the boat was pulled into deeper water. It was then brought alongside the lifeboat and the man on board was transferred to the lifeboat.

The vessel was towed back to Shoreham Harbour through the locks.

The Shoreham inshore lifeboat was also launched last Wednesday at 4.45pm to a capsized dinghy trapped against the middle pier in Shoreham Harbour.

On scene, the inshore lifeboat crew discovered a man in the water and trying to right his capsized laser dinghy.

They put the man into the lifeboat and then held onto the vessel and pulled it clear before righting it.

The man then got back into his dinghy and the lifeboat towed it back to Shoreham Sailing Club.
