Bognor motor club hits mark for charity funds

They have received donations of more than 25,000 from the entrants in their latest Regis Classic Tour.

This has taken the total raised from the 11 of the annual events featuring well-loved motoring names such as Austin Healey to just under 220,000.

All the money has benefited cancer charities. The current recipients are Against Breast Cancer and Orchid '“ Fighting Male Cancer. Car dealer Frosts backed the tour.

Tour organiser Ali Green said: "We never thought we could continue to raise such large sums of money each year. However, as so many families have been touched by cancer, the causes are always very well supported. The 140 people who took part in the latest tour must all be exhausted having driven 180 miles over the weekend in their classic cars and partied so hard into the bargain.

"The welcome received from our host hotel and chosen venues over the weekend was very warm, despite the slightly damp conditions.

"Cornwall in the spring is a delight. The countryside is stunning and the roads are challenging without the disadvantage of summer traffic."

The 56 crews on the 2008 classic tour were based at a four-star hotel in St Austell. Places visited included the Cornish Cider Farm at Penhallow, St Ives, the National Maritime Museum at Falmouth, Prideaux Place at Padstow and the delightful house of Boconnoc. The winner of the most sponsorship award was Liz Law from East Sussex. The Taskmaster trophy went to The Mavericks from Devon, while Team Gribble from Oving won the Bling Award.
