Bognor pensioners urged to seek government cash

The senior citizens could be missing out on benefits at a time when their budgets are being stretched by rising council tax bills, energy costs and other household expenses.

They have been told to go along to the town's Citizen's Advice Bureau for a free and confidential benefits check appointment.

This will find out if anyone over 60 is entitled to Pension Credit to boost a single person's weekly income to 124.05 and a couple's to 189.35.

Successful claims can be backdated for a year but only until October. Three months will then be the limit.

Council tax benefit is another source of help to reduce regular bills.

Being awarded any size of pension credit guarantee also opens the way to receiving other benefits. Among them is housing benefit and some dental and eyecare costs.
