"In the future we would like to involve the university and students, doing things like open mike nights."

He added: "We are going to start serving food. It used to serve food about six years ago and that was the last time it was really lively.

"We have a chef and a refitted kitchen. We're going to start by doing basic pub food, like hot dogs and burgers, then move on to a lunchtime menu. The idea is people can stay here to eat and it won't be as dear as a kebab shop."

The pub, opposite Iceland, will re-open for business at 11am on Saturday.
