Bowlers urge council to listen to concerns

AROUND 100 bowlers filled the public gallery at a full council meeting on Tuesday, to learn more about the fate of their clubs.

The futures of Field Place and West Tarring bowls clubs were recently thrown into doubt following an arbitrary announcement by Worthing Borough Council.

The proposal to close two greens, as well as club rooms, at Field Place, has generated a lot of concern among members.

It has been suggested that the clubs relocate to Beach House Park for the season after next.

West Tarring president David Tomalin, 79, spoke on behalf of the bowlers during public question time in Tuesday’s meeting.

Mr Tomalin asked if the council was aware of the ‘anger and frustration’ of the 120 club members surrounding the decision, stating that it would be the ‘death knell’ for the two ‘long-established’ clubs.
