Boy injured in road accident

An 11-year-old Felpham boy was being treated in hospital yesterdayafter he suffered serious injuries in a road accident.

The youngster was taken to St Richard's Hospital in an ambulance with a police escort after the collision on Tuesday evening.

The crash occurred at about 4.55pm on the A259 Flansham Road between the boy who was on roller skates and a Ford Escort driven by a man aged 65. The driver, who lives at Crawley, was unhurt.

The collision took place around the eastern end of the traffic island in the middle of the road.

Police closed Flansham Road from its junction with Flansham Park to the Southdowns Hotel at the Middleton Road roundabout.

Traffic was diverted through Flansham Park and Middleton Road but lengthy queues built up of the peak-time traffic.

The road closures remained in place until about 7pm.
