The fire is believed to involve oil tanks and also gas cylinders. There were some reports of explosions.

One eye witness, standing across the road from the boat yard, said: “There was suddenly a tremendous rush of heat like nothing I’ve ever felt before.”

A large crowd gathered on the opposite side of the river to watch the drama.

Both Littlehampton fire crews, and a crew from Arundel, are in attendance, along with large numbers of police and two ambulances on stand-by.

No one is believed to have been injured in the fire.
