Police in the town are now warning shoppers to be wary of the insects, who arrived in the town shortly after noon.

A police spokeswoman said: “The bees are fairly harmless. But to be safe, any people passing through the town should stay away from the swarm until they have moved away.”

The bees are expected to move on within the next couple of hours.
