Broken level-crossing causes train delays on the Worthing to Brighton line

COMMUTERS were faced with delays and cancellations to their journeys when a level-crossing gate in Shoreham stopped working.

The gate at Shoreham East, in Ham Road, stopped working and remained closed on Monday (December 13) at around 9.10am as a result of a signal problem caused by a defective train.

This meant only one train could go through the station at a time, causing tailbacks along the Worthing to Brighton railway line.

Irate train passenger Gregg Bunce, 24, of Stone Close, Worthing, said: “It took me more than twice the amount of time to get from West Worthing to Brighton making me very late for work.”

Engineers were sent to fix the problem at 10.37am and by 11.10 am the line had re-opened as normal.
