Burglary days after pavilion refurbished

CRICKETERS have been left “gutted” after their newly-decorated pavilion was broken into and heavily graffitied just days after work had been completed.

The pavilion, at the Manor Sports Ground, in Broadwater Road, Worthing, was broken into some time on Thursday night.

A dog walker, who was also a member of the club, noticed the break-in and alerted long-term member Andy Lutwyche.

Mr Lutwyche went to inspect the pavilion, and found a window broken, graffiti plastered over the walls, and the cash register in the bar missing.

He said a lot of hard work had gone into the building, and it had only been completed in the last few days.

He said: I didn’t go in as I didn’t want to contaminate the scene.

“We had put a lot of work into doing it up and the council had painted the outside and then this happened.

“A lot of people were volunteers and the whole thing has left a nasty taste.”
