Burwash village voice

The first was a game between Burwash FC and the Bear which the FC won. The second game was a memorial match which was very great fun and had plenty of spectators. In the evening there was great time for all with live music, fireworks and the light of the Burwash and Burwash Common Beacons. With the rain continuing to hold of long enough on Tuesday, for the Burwash Common Jubilee Fair to have a few hours without umbrellas. The crowds were able to enjoy a fun dog show, children’s races, Teddy bear parliament, Scalextric racing car grand prix, Morris dancers, fancy dress and much more. The Saturday Mile of coins along the village high street, raised £715, so well done and thank you to all who added to the line of coins during the morning. We as a village give grateful thanks to the hard working organisers of the fours day of events. and well done to all those who braved the weather and helped make it such a fantastic weekend

Misprint in last weeks column gave the Burwash Horticultural society’s Rose, Sweet Pea and delphinium show as 16th July, when of course it is tomorrow 16th June. The entries can be staged from 9am to 11am, and entry forms can be given in at that time. Visitors can go along from 2.15pm to 4pm. after the judging has taken place. Entry for visitors is free with tea/ coffee and a raffle available. There will also be children’s classes of ages up to 7 years of age and 8-11 years. apologies to any inconvenience the mistake may have caused.

The Burwash Stoolball club had an exciting game last friday when they played at home to Geebro. Despite the windy conditions, the team fielded well to contain Geebro to 107 runs from their allotted overs. Charlotte 23, Abbie 51. In reply burwash despite losing some early wickets settled down with Nikki MacKay 59 and Leanne Down 22, just taking the score pass Geebro’s to 109. An exciting finish and a great win. Well done girls. They will next play away to United Friends at Ninfield on Monday.

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped celebrated my 60th Birthday last sunday. Sixty people from as far away as Littlehampton in the west and Sittingbourne in the east, sat down to enjoy a hot three course lunch. It was so lovely to be surrounded by so many lovely friends & family. Thank you to ray Heathcote for providing music for dancing, I think everyone was too full to take up the offer tho. Thank you too to Sam Birch and her daughters Beth & Jasmin, my son Simon, niece Kim, friends Christine & Patrick Taylor and of couse my lovely Husband Barry for all there help, and those who helped clear awy afterwards. The donations given instead of presents makde £234, which we will make £250 and split between Demelza and Hayley’s Hope. Thank you for generosity.

On Monday morning the next Parish footpath walk will take place. You are all very welcome to join the walk which usually last between three & four hours, taking in the beautiful surrounding areas of our three villages and helps to keep the network of public footpaths open and in good repair for everyone to enjoy. The walks will be lead by Roger Cloke and he would be delighted with your company.

On Monday afternoon, the Burwash & District Flower Arrangement club will have their summer meeting. They will meet at the village hall at 2.15pm and the guest speaker will be |Msr Julie Brownlee with ‘Isn’t this Lovely’. All members and visitors are welcome to go along. The meetings usually end with tea and a raffle of the wonderful arrangements the speaker does at the meeting. Also at this meeting you are asked to take along plants and produce to be sold in aid of the Sussex Kidney Trust. The club’s annual outing this year is to Polesden Lacey near Dorking on Wednesday 4th July. non-members are welcome to go if space permits. Call Jean Plummer on 01435 883483 to find out more.

The Ticehurst & District Lifeboats are holding a coffee morning on wednesday from 10am to 1pm at Old Battenhurst, Battenhurst road, Stonegate. Entry is by donation and you are requested not to take your dogs, except of course guide-dogs. Your support would be very much appreciated.

Also on Wednesday the Burwash C of E Primary School will be holding their summer fete. The fun begins at 3pm until 5pm. With BBQ, cakes and refreshments, tombola and raffle, hoop-la, water target, tin can alley and much much more it is a fun event for everyone. The fete will open with a dispaly of country dancing. You are all invited to join in the fun.

The memebrs of the not So Young club will meet on Thursday afternoon at 2.15 for the june meeting, when they will hear from Msr Ruth Tompkinson on the work and fund raising for Admiral Nurses, for people with Dementia. Anyone of our senior members of our villages are welcome to attend. The club enjoys a wide and varied programme of events, including outings and lunches. Do go along and see for yourself what this lively group get up to.
