'Business is being singled out'

Ersin Bektas, speaking for Mr Karakus, told the committee that he was happy to withdraw his original proposal to open until 4am on Saturdays to meet the concerns of residents and the police.

However, with three staff behind the counter at busy times he did not consider it necessary to have two doormen on duty in the early hours. 'We do not have any trouble in the shop,' he explained.

He claimed the business was being singled out for extra doorstaff compared to other takeaways around the town.

'People coming out of the pubs and clubs after drinking are down the Queensway as well. It is not just our customers making the noise. It's people who are walking around after the clubs as well.'
