A new factory which makes and displays modular homes has opened in Shoreham, creating more than 150 new jobs.
Futureform, a property developer which designs and assembles modular buildings, has opened a factory and showroom in Brighton Road which is capable of making 1,000 three-bedroom houses a year.
Life size show homes will be on display at the 83,000 square foot factory, allowing customers to visit and pick their home just as they would a new car, a spokesman said.
Steven Barrett, chief executive and managing director of Futureform, said: “We have opened the UK’s first customer facing showroom for modular volumetric housing and buildings of its type here in Shoreham.
“With the housing crisis at the top of the political agenda, we want to revolutionise the way people buy homes in this country as well as developing sites more efficiently and sustainably using our market leading technology.”

These include skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled jobs with roles such as sales and support, architecture and design, planning, construction and logistics, plus assembly plant operatives for carpentry, metalwork, plastering and dry-lining, mechanical and electrical positions.
Mr Barrett said: “We are already making a significant investment in the local area by creating a range of new jobs and taking on apprentices.
“We want to build on that and are currently talking to training providers both locally and across the UK about creating a framework of practical training provision specifically focused on the type of modular, off site construction that we specialise in.
“I am really pleased to see therefore that the field of technical apprenticeships is an area that the government has supported as part of their budget announcement and we hope that this will be an area of job training and creation that will grow and expand.”
Futureform has completed a range of mixed residential developments, student rooms and hotels over the last ten years – all built using its innovative modular construction techniques, he said.
The company is offering homes under the House Beautiful Homes brand, in a partnership with Hearst Group, owners of House Beautiful Magazine.
