The business, in New Street, was given temporary permission in 2017 to stay open from 8am-1am Monday to Saturday and 8am-midnight on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Now it wants to make the changes permanent.

The application will be considered by Worthing Borough Council’s planning committee on Wednesday October 17, with officers recommending approval.

Some residents, however, were not so keen, with concerns raised about everything from noise to littering to the poor behaviour of some customers.

One letter of objection stated: “I’m a frequent visitor to New Street and there has been an increase in illegal parking, noise and sleep disruption.

“The poor residents who live here don’t have one night a week where their sleep isn’t disturbed. There are several families with small children too, and they have a right to an uninterrupted night’s sleep.”

The planning officer’s report stated that, given the number of objections raised, it was ‘surprising’ that no complaints had been made to the council’s environmental health team in the past year.

She added that, on balance, it was not felt that the longer opening hours would have an adverse affect on nearby residents.

The planning committee meeting will be held in the Gordon Room at Worthing Town Hall at 6.30pm.
