Calls for better access to Ferring café

A Ferring man is leading a campaign for improved disabled access to a popular beach café

Christopher Fogg, 66, of Ferring Marine noticed that disabled people were unable to get to the Bluebird Café on the beach at Ferring Strand.

Currently, access is either via the beach or an uneven car park, so Christopher is calling for a path to be built between Patterson’s Walk and the café.

Christopher said: “Lots of people come here, including people with wheelchairs. Naturally, you would walk down here and stop at the café, ,which is only 30 or 40 yards away.

“The main path, Patterson’s Walk, is perfect for wheelchairs but it stops when it comes to the beach.”

Christopher has sent letters to Ferring Parish Council but says he is yet to receive a reply.

The idea has drawn the support of Ken Mitchell, 81, of West Drive, who cannot access the café using his mobility scooter.

He said: “It’s a great shame that the pathway comes to an end because I can’t get to the café. “I would quite like to visit the café from time to time.”
