Candidates battle it out at hustings

CANDIDATES for the general election in East Worthing and Shoreham will be answering questions at a hustings event.

Adur Churches Forum has organised the Parliamentary Election 2015 Hustings at the Shoreham Centre on Thursday, April 23, at 7.30pm.

Robin Olivier said: “The hustings gives an opportunity for members of the public to ask questions of candidates for the general election and to compare their answers.

“This hustings has been arranged by Adur Churches, for the benefit of the community and there will be no admission charge. After the question time, there will be an opportunity to talk to candidates individually.”

Peter Latham, former chief executive of Adur and Worthing councils, will chair the event.

All six candidates so far declared have been invited and have accepted. They are James Doyle (Green), Michael Glennon (UKIP), Tim Loughton (Conservative), Tim Macpherson (Labour), Bob Smytherman (Liberal Democrat), Carl Walker (National Health Action).

Questions can be submitted to Robin Olivier at [email protected] or 01273 461026 by midday on April 23. Forum members will also take questions at the door up to 7pm.

Mr Olivier explained: “To avoid duplication and to cover a variety of relevant issues, we plan to collate similar questions into one consolidated question.”

Adur Churches Forum is a constituted body, bringing together churches in Adur, particularly to promote the social welfare element of the Gospel message.
