Care home garden event to raise money for physio facility

Fethneys Care Home, in Farncombe Road, Worthing, opened in 2007 and provides a range of services to support physically disabled adults to live independently.

The ‘FethFest’ is being held on Saturday, with live music acts playing into the evening, along with stools, a raffle and face painting.

Charley Noyce, 24, a support worker from Fethneys Care Home, said: “We were originally set up as a home for young people with cerebral palsy, but funding has changed recently.

“Funding is now being given to people with higher need, rather than those with less need – therefore we need more space and physio for the higher end of the spectrum, such as acquired brain injuries.

“We hope to raise as much as we can to work towards building this facility – which we hope will be put in by the end of the year.”

The care home is part of the Leonard Cheshire Disability charity, the UK’s largest voluntary sector provider of services for disabled people, who support over 7,000 disabled people in the UK and over 50 countries to fulfill their potential and live the lives they choose.

It tries to make sure residents live in a lively atmosphere, encouraging them to pursue their interests and try new activities.

They can also take on educational courses and enjoy events in the home, such as parties and barbecues.

A spokesperson from Leonard Cheshire Disability Charity said: “We are always impressed at the amount of energy and enthusiasm the staff and service users put into events at Fethneys, and we can’t wait to hear about the FethFest and the playlist looks really good.

“Physio can really help people find new ways to find mobility, movement and exercise, so we really hope everyone will support this event in the area.”

The festival starts at 1pm and entry is £4 for adults and £2 for children.
