A brand new addition to the castle’s events calendar, visitors can expect close combat fighting from the competing knights, squires and men-at-arms as well as breath-taking falconry displays and have-a-go archery for over eights.

The Raven Tor Living History Group will bring the 12th Century to life at this event with every detail carefully considered, from the 45-pound chain mail armour the knights will be wearing, to the swords, spears, axes and maces they will be wielding at each other.

Paul Ullson, Coordinator of Raven Tor Living History Group, explains: “Visitors are invited to join Norman Lords and Ladies to watch the participants compete for glory with several tournaments per day.”

Visitors will also be able to learn about the Middle Ages with crafts and cookery displays from the period and tales woven by a popular story teller. Crafts to be showcased will include leatherwork, medieval medicine and naal binding, an early form of knitting.

Bryan McDonald, Castle Manager, comments: “This weekend offers fun and entertainment for all the family as well as a great opportunity to see history come alive.”
