CCTV released of Tarring off-licence robber

POLICE have released a CCTV image of a man who robbed a Tarring off-licence earlier today (Wednesday, April 1).

The robbery took place at around 12.30pm today (Wednesday, April 1) at The Local in South Street.

Police said a man walked past the Co-Op superstore and into the off-licence, where he threatened a member of staff and began filling two Wine Store carrier bags with Benson and Hedges cigarettes.

He then stole 150 cash before escaping through the back of the shop and into an alleyway.

Det Sgt Tracy Edwards from Worthing CID said: "Although no one was injured this was a very frightening attack.

"We are are appealing to the public to provide any information which will lead to the apprehension of this man. We are working with CCTV images and hope that these images will lead to him being brought to justice."

The man is described as white, with a local accent, aged in his late 30s to early 40s, about 6ft 2ins tall and of stocky build.

He was wearing a black beanie hat and a black duffle coat with prominent buttons and epaulettes. This may have appeared unusual as the weather was sunny and warm.

Police suspect the man may have used a vehicle and possibly had an accomplice.

Anyone with any information, or who has been offered cigarettes, should call police on 0845 60 70 999, quoting serial 669 of April 1.
