Centenarian has shown '˜remarkable perseverance'

She has lived at the care home, managed by Abbeyfield Ferring, since December, having moved to Worthing 11 years ago.

May never met her father, as he was killed in action in the First World War, six weeks after she was born. However, on her 90th birthday, she visited his grave in France.

Son Keith Guinness said: “Sadly, May lost her husband Jack in 1969 and although she is now blind, she has always shown remarkable strength and perseverance which is probably why she has lived so long.”
