Challenge of a lifetime for cyclists

A MOTHER and daughter will be getting on their bikes for charity later this year, as they cycle across Tanzania to support three cancer charities.

The two cyclists will be part of a group of women who will be tackling the fifth Women V Cancer challenge, taking place between October 9 and 18.

Karon and Hollie Chamberlain will be raising money for Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, and Ovarian Cancer Action by cycling 216 miles through Tanzania.

They will start in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, cycling on and off road past the great Rift Valley, all the way to the finish line at the gates of Ngorongoro National Park.

The two cyclists will be fundraising in memory of Karon’s mum who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2008 at the age of 60.

The two have been training hard, and are hoping to raise a minimum of £3,00 each.

Although they have already reached £4,000, they are looking for local people and companies to help them reach their target.

Karon and Hollie’s family have got involved with the fund raising efforts, and have been raising money over the last year with a wide range of events and fun activities to help the two cyclists reach their target.

Karon is excited to share this opportunity with her daughter, who will be nearly 17 when they cross the finish line.

Karon said: “My daughter and I will be getting on our bikes and taking positive action against breast, ovarian and cervical cancer.

“The cycling group will be experiencing rural Tanzania, away from tourist trails and hotspots.

“Together we will be taking up the challenge of a lifetime.

Every year 55,000 women and men are diagnosed with breast cancer.

Nearly three women die every day from cervical cancer, and 12 women die every day from ovarian cancer, which is the biggest gynecological killer of women in the UK.
