Challenges and more in a week of fundraising

TEENAGERS have spent a week doing various fun fundraising activities to support Worthing animal charity Wadars.

The group of 12 16 and 17-year-olds, calling themselves Janpire, were part of the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme.

With the help of two team leaders from Concordia, they organised various activities in and around Worthing to raise money.

These included a 100 challenges challenge, where they used sponsorship forms and social networking to encourage donations.

Alice Evans, one of the group, said: “We have beat our target of £500, with £731.28 raised so far, which is still going up.

“On the day of the sponsored walk from Worthing Pier to Brighton Pier, East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton joined us at the start.

“We also completed a day of raising awareness in Brighton, did bag packing and ran a tombola at Pets at Home, completed the 100 challenges and a sponsored walk.”

The group, all from the Worthing area, said they chose Wadars because it is a local charity that receives no Government funding.

Leader Lula Edmonds said: “They were one of the most incredible groups we have had and bonded so well.

“It has been really amazing. It is so inspirational. I know at that age I was disattached at school and I wish I had had something like this. With Concordia they get to create their own structure and it is good to see them succeed.”
