Charity competition winners on display in Worthing exhibition

WINNING artwork in a charity competition are going on show in Worthing.

The Myasthenia Gravis Association, known as Myaware, invites people to view the winning artwork at the exhibition launch on Friday.

The Life with Art exhibition at Teville Gate House, Railway Approach, Worthing, from 11am to 3pm, features artwork by members, alongside information about the association and refreshments.

Regional organiser Steve Saunders said: “Myasthenia gravis is a rare, neuro-muscular condition that affects about 10,000 people in the UK and yet is unknown to the majority of the population.

“Many doctors have only a vague knowledge of it, so it tends to go undiagnosed. Myasthenia gravis, like most rare diseases, is often chronic, and undiagnosed and left untreated it can be life-threatening.

“It can affect all ages and all races, and the number of reported cases in children is on the increase. There is no existing cure and control by medication is the best that can be done.”

Myaware is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting people diagnosed with the condition and a related syndrome. As well as providing help to patients and their families, friends and carers through local branches, Myaware also works to raise awareness of the disease both among the public and the medical professions, and raises funds for research into finding a cure.
